The Sussex Sports Awards is one of the most important events in the Sussex sporting calendar and this year, Brighton-based online and social marketing agency Propellernet, saw off some healthy competition to win the Active and Healthy Workplace Award which was sponsored by Wave Leisure Trust Ltd.

2009 was the annual event’s sixth year running and a total of 48 finalists competed for awards in 15 categories.  Presentations were made at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Friday the 13th November and the evening was hosted by Derek Redmond, one of Britain’s greatest 400m Athletes.

As an agency, Propellernet believe their people (and their minds) are their greatest asset, which is why the company is committed to staff wellbeing and happiness.  To ensure everyone is getting enough exercise a dedicated well being team takes responsibility for encouraging everyone to get away from their desks at lunchtimes and take part in sporting activities.  Each Monday a wellbeing board in the office is updated with a weekly weather report and activities such as frisbee, volleyball and kite-surfing sessions are planned in for the week ahead.

Staff regularly compete in physical feats such as Tough Guy and Hell Runner outside of work hours too.  Propellernet’s very own MD, Jack Hubbard, competed in the Welsh 3000s this year and mastered 15 Welsh mountain peaks in 24 hours!  Five Propellernetters also completed the Brighton Half Marathon and there is already a team signed up for the inaugural Brighton Marathon in May 2010 and the Brighton Half Marathon too.

Jack Hubbard, Managing Director at Propellernet, said: “We’re delighted to have won the Healthy and Active Award at the Sussex Sports Awards. As one of the UK’s leading online and social marketing agencies, delivering the best work possible for our clients is key and we fundamentally believe that having a happy and healthy team positively impacts the quality of work that we in turn deliver to our clients. To win an award recognising our hard work and effort surrounding ‘employee wellbeing’ is a great achievement for us.”

Peter Crowley, Managing Director of Wave Leisure, said: “Wave Leisure is delighted to be able to continue to support the Sussex Sports Awards through the Active and Healthy Workplace Award.  As one of Sussex’s most proactive leisure trusts, we work hard to engage with all sections of the community and are delighted to support the innovative ways in which the challenges and barriers to a sedentary and inactive lifestyle are enacted.

Peter continues: “Propellernet has clearly demonstrated a commitment to the wellbeing of their people which translates into a commitment to their business and stakeholders.”

The other finalists for the Active and Healthy Award this year, Nibbles of Worthing Ltd and Wellbeing at Work (Brighton & Hove City Council) were both highly commended.
