Wave Wins Quest Award Again!

Wave Leisure Trust Limited (Wave), the charity and social enterprise which promotes wellbeing, fitness and healthy lifestyles across East Sussex has just been named ‘Top Performing Facility in the UK’ for the second consecutive year for its Peacehaven Leisure Centre by QUEST, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.

QUEST has the endorsement of the four home country Sports Councils – Sport England, Sport Scotland, Sport Wales and Sport Northern Ireland and is supported by a wide range of industry organisations. It is the industry tool used for continuous improvement in the management of leisure facilities and leisure development, and defines industry standards, good practice and encourages ongoing development and delivery within a customer-focused management framework.

Wave’s Area Manager, Nikki Hughes-Faldo and Quality Services Manager, Fred Furner accepted the Award at the Annual QUEST NBS and CIMSPA 2017 Joint Conference. Commenting on the Peacehaven success, Nikki said: I’m extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of Wave’s Peacehaven Leisure Centre; it’s a huge honour to be recognised as the ‘Top Performing Facility in the UK’ for the second year in a row. The Team at Peacehaven are passionate about contributing to the overall wellbeing of the local community and it is really rewarding to see all their efforts recognised by QUEST.”

Leisure facilities throughout the whole of the UK competed for this prestigious accolade and were subjected to rigorous assessment which covered subjects such as centre management and community engagement across all customer groups including interactions with people with disabilities, children and the older generation.

The QUEST Team also explored how leisure facilities manage development among their employees, how events are managed and how they use marketing and sales techniques. The list of standards to be met is understandably very long and extremely thorough, so for Peacehaven Leisure Centre to be named the ‘Top Performing Facility in the UK’ for two successive years is something to be celebrated.

Fred added: “This is an industry standard award recognised across the whole of the UK and our Peacehaven Leisure Centre won, for a second year! This isn’t an easy award to win let alone retain. I couldn’t be prouder of the team in Peacehaven for what they have achieved.”

Let's get exploring at Newhaven Fort

From Friday 1st May, Newhaven Fort will be opening its doors for the first time under the management of Wave.

Wave is best known in the local area for successfully managing and operating leisure facilities and whilst the Newhaven Fort will bring diversification to the Wave portfolio by combining the skill sets of the Wave and Fort Management and Operations Teams, this new approach will drive success into this local and valuable heritage site.

Situated at the mouth of the river Ouse with a stunning view out over Seaford Bay, Newhaven Fort is an award-winning attraction. This striking Victorian fortification completed in 1871, has interactive displays, reconstructions and exhibitions that bring history to life for adults and children alike.

Duncan Kerr, CEO of Wave said:  “We are delighted that Wave has concluded negotiations with Lewes District Council for the management of Newhaven Fort.”

Kerr continues: “We are really energised about the opportunity of working with the staff currently at the Fort to bring to life a business plan that continues to offer a strong robust presence in the south and that raises the profile of exciting future prospects.”

Lewes District Council said: “Newhaven Fort is an important heritage asset and as a responsible custodian, Lewes District Council understands the need to protect the Fort for future generations. The Council believes that entering into a management agreement with Wave will safeguard the future of the Fort, by attracting more visitors and increasing the number of events, underlining the importance of the Fort not just to Newhaven but to the South Coast.”

The Fort boasts an immersive experience with the Second World War air-raid simulator in the Home Front exhibition; an interactive exhibition taking you through the D-Day landings in 1944, what life was like in the trenches during the First World War and the history of the Fort and its role in defending Newhaven.
