Managing 15 leisure facilities and Newhaven Fort, across the Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough of East Sussex we are passionate about providing opportunities that support individuals to gain, regain or maintain: health, fitness, and wellbeing.

Under the brand of Wave Active Health, we have a growing reputation for the delivery of health improvement related projects, for example; Weight Management, Cardiac Rehab, Stroke Rehab, ESCAPE Pain and referral work with Primary Health Care Partners, and we are really ambitious about expanding this part of the charity.

Who are we looking for?

In line with this narrative, we want to recruit a passionate, driven individual to work at the forefront of active prevention/rehabilitation as part of the Wave Active Health Team, making a real difference to the health of the local community. We would love to hear from nurses or other health practitioners who have worked within the NHS and/or Primary Health Care with a passion for physical activity, health and wellbeing.

What will you be doing?

The role will be to deliver the Wave Active Health Strategy and ambitious growth plan across the Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough.

Working with our exercise practitioners, our site teams, for example fitness instructors, and external health care partners, you will design, set up and, if required deliver programmes of activity, supporting those with health conditions (physical, mental and emotional), to engage in positive health and wellbeing activities in isolation or in partnership with primary health care providers, for identified health improvement. 

The role has three primary objectives:

  1. Increase Participation
  2. Improve Retention
  3. Customer Experience

What we need from you?

  • Ideally you would have a GP Referral Qualification but, to attract the right person we will help you to obtain this standard.
  • In addition, a Health Condition Based Certification Level 3 or above (e.g. OTAGO, Chair Based, Postural Stability Instruction, Cardiac Rehab, Cancer Rehab or similar)
  • Professional or industry standard relevant qualifications.
  • Ideally, First Aid and Safeguarding Certification, however, again for the right person we can help you obtain these qualifications.
  • Good proven knowledge and understanding of physical activity and health improvement structures and initiatives.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the health benefits of physical activity, in relation to primary and secondary prevention of medical conditions, to include weight management principles, exercise and implications.

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Health Condition Based Certification Level 3 or above (e.g. OTAGO, Chair Based, Postural Stability Instruction, Cardiac Rehab, Cancer Rehab or similar)

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Professional or industry standard relevant qualifications.
  • First Aid and Safeguarding Certification.
  • Level 4 Specialist Exercise Qualifications.

Experience (Essential)

  • Proven working experience in sports/leisure/fitness environment with an emphasis on health and physical activity.
  • Proven experience of working with specialised populations

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience of working with families and young people under the age of 16 years.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies (Essential)

  • Good proven knowledge and understanding of physical activity and health improvement structures and initiatives.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the health benefits of physical activity, in relation to primary and secondary prevention of medical conditions, to include weight management principles, exercise and implications. Knowledge of Exercise Referral schemes.
  • Ability to play/coach multiple sports and activities to a good level.
  • General knowledge of the determinants of health and health improvement principles.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies (Desirable)

  • An understanding of the barriers to regular participation in sport and physical activity
  • Experience of digital engagement for the provision of activity and/or remote support for guidance into physical activity.

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to work unsupervised.
  • Good IT knowledge and excellent organisational skill.
  • Highly motivated and with the ability to motivate and enthuse others.
  • A flexible approach to working hours.
