Changes to Cardio and Functional Training Gym Booking Procedures

During lockdown two we have taken the opportunity to enhance the offer in Downs Leisure Centre’s Cardio and Functional Training Gym and, on the back of customer feedback we will now trial an amendment to the booking system. Please note this change only relates to the Cardio and Functional Training Gym, there is no change to the Resistance Gym Booking System.

Previously, members and paying customers have been required to book a 60-minute time slot in advance and were required to vacate the gym at the end of that time slot, after which, the gym was closed for 30 minutes to enable our technical team to clean the equipment.

Whilst this booking system has worked well for many members and paying customers, we recognise the frustration for others who simply cannot make this system work due to their personal circumstances.

As such, from 3rd December we will be trialling a new system based on your anticipated arrival time.

Time slots will no longer have an end time*, you will simply be booking an ‘arrival time’ meaning that you can stay for as long as you want.

Arrival time slots can be booked in advance, but you can now also just turn up and book when you arrive at reception. However, if you choose not to book in advance you run the risk of not being able to access the gym if the participation capacity threshold has been reached.

Due to the additional space available, we have also reviewed the capacity level for the Cardio and Functional Training Gym and increased it to 25.

Senior Sessions – Sessions for members and paying customers over the age of 60

Please note, senior sessions will continue to run on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 10:30am and 11:30am at Downs Leisure Centre. Please help us to support those members more vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 by vacating the gym for the start of this session at 10.30am on the relevant days.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of our staff, members and paying customers remains the key priority, as such we will continue to clean in line with our previous cleaning schedule and we would appreciate your patience and support if our technical team are cleaning equipment during one of your sessions.

Please help our technical team by cleaning the equipment you use during your session.

Please note the resistance gym at DLC will continue to run with the original 60-minute booking time slot system along with our other gym facilities at Lewes, Seahaven, East Grinstead and Peacehaven.

It is our intention to run the trial period for one month and gather feedback from customers to understand views, including any concerns.

Thank you for your continued support.

*On a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, those under the age of 60 will be asked to leave at 10.30am to enable the Senior Session to take place.
