These classes are designed to help reduce the risk of falling by improving strength, balance and confidence.
During each class, participants will practice a range of fun strength and balance exercises and, once they are confident, the Instructor will ask them to practice some of these exercises at home to help get the most out of the class. The class consists of a selection of seated and standing exercises, some with light weights or resistance bands.
These gentle, bespoke exercise sessions are delivered at Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford, Lewes Leisure Centre and Shakespeare Hall in Newhaven.
The Strength & Balance sessions are suited to people who:
Have experienced a fear of falling
Sometimes feel unstable on their feet
Can lack confidence when walking
Have experienced a fall or falls
Believe that you would benefit from a programme of Strength & Balance classes and be willing to work with our Instructors to improve your fitness
In the first session, the Instructor will carry out a basic assessment of a participant’s current abilities to make sure they are aware of any injuries or conditions that could impact participation, so an individual’s progress and improvement throughout the classes can be monitored.
During the classes, light weights will be available to help develop strength and, at the end of each session, there will be an opportunity for participants to relax and chat with other class mates over a hot or cold beverage.
